如果论文没有标注参考文献，就无法进入权威性的论文数据库，无法体现其社会效益。
标注参考文献可以增加论文信息量。
标注参考文献则不必大段抄录原文，只需列出核心观点与重要数据，从而突出主旨要义，缩减论文的篇幅。
与此同时，标注参考文献能使论文显得结构清晰、节约篇幅、语言精练、扩充容易，这也是众多知名学者引用较多参考文献的原因之一。
标注参考文献便于科研成果的评价。
参考文献是真实地反映论点、数据、资料的主要依据，可以向读者提供检索信息资源的正确线索，也是鉴定研究成果的重要依据。
1.引用文献较老
这一点最常见，很多人在引用文献时根本没有注意过文献的时效性。根据普赖斯指数原理，相对而言，引用5年内的文献越多，普赖斯指数越高，过时的文献越少，说明论文所涉及的问题越接近当前的前沿课题。实验性文章的年代距离越远，参考价值可能越低，因此一般要求所引用文献的50%-70%应为近5年内发表的文献。
2.引用内容构成了论文的实质核心部分
引用参考文献的目的是回顾前人研究，传承学术成果，突显创新之处或佐证自身观点。如果一篇论文的核心内容全是引用的前人观点，对读者没有任何新的启发，那将毫无价值和意义。论文的创新性是吸引读者阅读最重要的支撑，在创新性、开拓性上下功夫才是论文写作的王道。

通常来说， 参考文献按照在正文中出现的先后次序列于文后，参考文献的序号左顶格，并用数字加方括号表示，如[1]、[2]、…，以与正文中的指示序号格式一致。不同文献各对应一个序号；当文献题名相同而仅页码不同，作为一条文献，可将页码注在正文中的指示序号后，如 [5]520。每一参考文献条目的末尾均以“.”结束。
